Health Benefits of Medical Marijuana

health benefits of medical marijuana

Marijuana, also known by other names like cannabis and hemp, is one of the most well-known plants in the world. It can be used in many different forms for many purposes, from food to materials to medicine. Marijuana has been used for ages to cure illnesses, and in recent years, its usage has expanded as restrictions on its use have been relaxed.

Medical Cannabis for Chronic Pain

The use of medical marijuana has also been studied for chronic pain. Research has shown that medical cannabis can reduce nerve pain and other forms of chronic pain. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) published a study in the “Journal of Pain,” which showed that these properties might be used to help individuals who suffer from migraines and other headaches. Medical marijuana has also been used to treat phantom limb pain in amputees and multiple sclerosis (MS) spasticity symptoms.

Medical Cannabis for Arthritis

According to a study published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, medical marijuana use can help increase mobility among arthritis patients by reducing pain and inflammation while increasing joint mobility.

Medical Cannabis for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder in which a person feels intense pain. People with fibromyalgia also have fatigue, sleep, memory, and mood issues. Cannabis has been studied for its efficacy in treating the symptoms of this disease.

In 1998 The American Academy of Neurology concluded that “the results suggest that people who suffer from fibromyalgia may experience a reduction in symptoms when they use medical marijuana.”

Medical Cannabis for ADD and ADHD

ADD and ADHD are brain disorders characterized by inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Research has shown that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), one of the active chemicals in marijuana, helped ADHD patients focus their attention and improved their task completion and grades at school.

Medical Cannabis for Cancer Prevention or Treatment

Medical Cannabis can also be used as a potential treatment for cancer. According to research studies conducted in the past, cannabinoids and marijuana may help prevent cancer (National Cancer Institute).

The study showed that “cannabinoids may have a protective effect against the development of certain types of tumors and the growth of some types of tumors.”

Medical Cannabis for PTSD

According to a study published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, marijuana can be used to reduce or relieve post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms in people who have experienced trauma.

Medical Marijuana for Schizophrenia

Medical cannabis is also being studied as a treatment for schizophrenia. According to studies conducted by researchers at King’s College London, “THC can safely improve the symptoms of schizophrenia.”

The benefits of medical marijuana are clear, but the medical community is still reluctant to recommend it as a treatment. However, with enough studies now supporting its effectiveness, this reluctance should change soon. Let us know how we can best help you access medical marijuana and begin reaping its benefits.
